Years ago I had a "Wouldn't it be cool if ..." moment about police using DNA to make a sketch of a perp's face. I had no idea that we now know enough about the human genome to actually pull it off, and in 3D! How long does it take to create one face? How much does it cost to do it? Can you create guesses as to what those faces look like at more advanced ages, or is there software already that can take one of your faces and age it? Any plans to build a business around this (or license the technology to others to buld a business around it)? I'm surprised you don't have police forces the world over beating down your door for this.

Hello Heather,
This is a beautiful project that you do!
It was 3 years ago that I thought up a future-tech for a sci-fi book I'm working on which included DNA facial reconstruction for the purposes of identification. At the time I had no knowledge of your work whatsoever. I love it when things I have imagined become reality. Now I just have to come up with a new future-tech for the story ;)

I have no doubt that your pioneering work will leave its mark on both the worlds of art and forensics.

Andrea,
Thank you for your interest. This is such a beautiful idea but I'm afraid the technology isn't there yet. When I work with hair it is pulled from the root and fairly fresh. My understanding is that the chromosomal DNA which codes for the majority of facial traits doesn't survive long enough to extract it from older pieces of cut hair. I am so sorry to disappoint you. We may get there with the science some day though!

Are you doing more with DNA project? It is amazing. May I send you my DNA? I just turned 50. In good health and I see that you have made eveyone 25. I would love to celebrate my first halfcentury!

If, not, 25 is a great age

I also have fraternal twin boys which may be an interesting project.

Please let me know

Respectfully,

Lisa Negroni
